Satellite television is television delivered by means of communications satellites. Satellite television privides a wider range of channels that can be viewed than normal terrestrial television. Satellite television starts with a transmitting antenna, facing direct to the satellite in space, called an uplink facility. The signals are sent to the satellite through the air and gets received by transponders on board the satellite. The transponders retransmits the signals back to earth in different frequencies.

Signal are captured by a satellite dish, which reflects the signal to the dish’s vocal point. A low noise block (LNB) that is situated at the vocal point, amplifies the weakened signals, after travelling thousands of kilometers, filters the block of frequencies and converts them in a lower frequency band. The LNB sends the signals through a coaxial cable to the decoder(satellite receiver) in your living room. The satellite reveiver then decodes and converts the signals to the desired form.

Analog and Digital satellite tv:

Direct broadcast television comes to the general public in two forms: analog and digital. Analog tv is being replaced by digital satellite television, as analog television takes much more bandwidth than digital television. Digital television is becoming available in a better quality known as high-definition interface.
